Zero fees health care is funded for all children up to the age of 14 years across New Zealand.
From May 1, 2023 Hawke’s Bay announced free GP and registered nurse healthcare funding for young people aged 14-24 years in the Hawke’s Bay region.
We have worked with Health Hawke’s Bay to reset the qualifying criteria to ensure the financial sustainability of the service for our most vulnerable young people across Hawke’s Bay.
Eligibility Criteria
From September 1, 2024, eligibility will be limited to young people aged 14-24 who are
- Māori and/or Pacific
- Currently hold a Community Services Card
- Currently resides in a Quintile 5 area
- Or have been diagnosed with at least ONE of the long-term conditions below,
- Type 1 Diabetes
- Cystic Fibrosis/ Bronchiectasis
- Asthma requiring Immunotherapy (Omalizumab, Mepolizumab, Benralizumab)
- Cardiovascular Disease
- Congenital/Genetic Conditions
- Auto Immune Disease- Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s Disease, Juvenile RA
- Bipolar/Schizophrenia
- Previous admission to the Mental Health Unit in the past 24 months
- Neurological
- Cance
- Kidney Disease
This service is an extension to the normal funding provided by Health New Zealand for general practice services for young people across the country.
All young people can contact a health care professional through Open Access Clinics across Hawke’s Bay.
