Level 1 visitor policy

Hawke’s Bay Hospital’s visitor policy has returned to normal at COVID-19 Level 1, but do not visit if you are unwell and/or have any cold or flu-like symptoms.

The return to normal means visiting hours in the ward tower block are 1pm to 8pm daily, with no restriction on visitor numbers per patient.  The clinical condition of some patients may restrict the number of visitors allowed; this is at the discretion of the Clinical Nurse Manager of the ward.

The DHB is reviewing its visitor policy for its Emergency Department (ED), which in the meantime remains at one support person per patient because of the limited space in the waiting room and the need to continue to screen for patients with any symptoms of COVID-19. Discretion will be applied by the Clinical Nurse Manager for children and older patients needing support.

Some restrictions will remain in place in the maternity areas of Hawke’s Bay Hospital regarding the number of visitors, at the discretion of the Clinical Midwife Manager.

A formalised on-going policy for ED will be developed for other critical care areas of Hawke’s Bay Hospital such as Intensive Care, Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) and Maternity-Ata Rangi and Waioha.

For more information on these wards phone 06 878 8109.

At Wairoa Hospital and Health Centre, the visitor policy has returned to normal.
