Hawke’s Bay District Health Board has decided that it will close its Wairoa general practice, the Health Care Centre, on December 1.
Health Care Centre patient records are going to the Queen St Practice, which has agreed to receive the patients to ensure they have continuity of care.
In 2012, HBDHB took on the role of general practice provider, during a time of uncertainty around primary care in Wairoa, Chris Ash, the DHB’s senior representative on the Wairoa Community Partnership group, said.
“It was intended to be an interim measure to ensure Wairoa had sufficient access to general practice.
“The situation has materially changed, and we are confident that there is now consistent, reliable primary care workforce external to the health board,” said Mr Ash.
“That means we are able to focus our efforts on providing broader health services. For us, it is about actioning ‘Whānau Voices’, the koha that the community has provided to us over the last year, on which we are basing service improvements to the Wairoa community.”
Affected Hawke’s Bay District Health Board staff were advised of the closure yesterday. They will have the opportunity to be deployed into other health board positions.
