Acute Assessment Unit (AAU)
The Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) is an inpatient short stay unit which provides an acute service for unwell medical patients (non-critical) who would otherwise be managed in the Emergency Department.
The AAU has 20 bed spaces, made up of 18 single rooms (including 2 isolation suites), and one multi-bed room.
The service is supported by an multi-disciplinary team (medical, nursing and Allied Health staff) with expertise in Acute General Medicine, who provide:
- early diagnostics and investigations such as blood tests and x-rays
- early diagnoses, and
- initiate early treatment and intervention.
